Deception Detection Myths and Realities
Presented by John Gervino – July 10, 2024
Contrary to popular belief (as illustrated in mass media) and to what law enforcement officers and intelligence agents are often taught, there are no universal or 100% reliable cues to deception. Knowing whether the narrative a subject offers is wholly truthful or not, is difficult. What science has taught us in the past 10 years is that (1) cues to deception are most likely to come from what the subject says, not from how he acts (i.e., the cues are verbal, not non- verbal) and (2) cues to deception are elicited by a skillful interviewer, as opposed to detected by a skillful interviewer.
Finding Biological Families
Presented by Eileen Law – May 8, 2024
Finding Biological families is vastly different from any other type of investigation you will perform. The things you do (or don’t do) may facilitate an entirely different outcome. You aren’t just dealing with “facts” or “evidence” ~ you’re dealing with people’s lives. In the over 3,000 such investigations that Eileen has performed over the past 39 years ~ long before DNA was available ~ her 98% success rate is born of the mistakes she made in the beginning & learned from. In this webinar, you will learn the “Do’s & Don’ts” when conducting such investigations from the woman whose passion in finding loved ones makes her “tick.”
Understanding and Investigating Internal Fraud
Presented by Robert “Jerry” DeFatta, CFE, BAI, CRT – March 27, 2024
This presentation is designed to provide professional investigators and security personnel with the knowledge that is essential in understanding internal fraud. We review common areas in a business where theft most often occurs, and the methods used to commit these crimes. Classic and innovative theories in criminology will be examined as they relate to the topic of employee theft and fraud.
During this training session we will also discuss the advantages of adding preventive investigations and integrity testing to the current investigative services you offer. We will look at common types of internal fraud that can be identified by preventive investigations and see samples of successful investigations. We will explore cases where internal thefts were quickly identified by using such investigative techniques.
